FAQs
FAQs
I receive a lot of emails asking the same, few questions, so I thought I'd answer the questions I receive most often here.
How do I join your Scarf Club?Scarf Club memberships for 2022 are closed. You will be able to purchase individual scarves when they become available, while those supplies last.
How do I sign up for one of your block printing classes?I no longer regularly teach my block printing class, and am not looking to add new teaching venues at this time. If I do decide to teach again, you'll be able to find my teaching schedule here.
Will you teach at my workshop space/quilt guild/store? I am not looking for new teaching venues - either in-person and online - at this time. I occasionally make an exception for colleges/universities and nonprofit educational organizations that provide week long (or longer) programs for art students and working artists. These sessions must be booked at least a year in advance. Do you teach private classes?Yes, I do! I’ve taught private classes for a number of companies in the Bay Area. Please contact me if your company would like more information about this. However, I do not teach classes for private parties or quilt guilds, or do one-on-one sessions with individuals.
What type of ink/block/carving tool do you use in your block printed work? I tried block printing on my own, but don't like the results. Could you tell me what I'm doing wrong?I get asked these questions a lot, which is one of the reasons I started teaching, and wrote a book. The answers are complex, and are very specific to my own practice. I share information about my tools and materials only in my classes and my book. If you’d like to take my online class, you can find more information here. More information about my book is here.
What type of fabric do you use? Where do you buy it?My wholesale suppliers are part of my intellectual property, and not information I share publicly. I could talk more about why, but Danielle Spurge's blog post here pretty much covers my reasons.
I would love to visit your studio! Do you have open studio hours? My studio isn’t open to the public. These days, I’m often working on client projects that I can’t yet share publicly. Plus, my studio is in my home and I’m very protective of my privacy!
I’ll be in the Hudson Valley. Could we meet for coffee/a drink?I wish there were more hours in the day! Alas, I often don’t have enough time to see all the friends I already have, and I don’t like to interrupt my workday to socialize, so I have a blanket policy of not meeting up with strangers (however lovely they may be) for coffee/drinks/etc.
Okay, how about a phone call so I can pick your brain? Or could I interview you for my end-of-school term project?Again, I'm very protective of my time, and so I also have a blanket policy of not doing informational interviews, whether in person, on the phone, or via email. I'd write a blog post about my more specific reasons for not doing end-of-term student interviews, but the illustrator Marian Bantjes has already written a fantastic essay where she talks about her reasons, and I couldn't have said it better myself. In my recent podcast interviews I've talked pretty openly about my path and the challenges I've faced. You can find links to those interviews here.
Do you sell wholesale? No, I do not. I made this decision due to constraints on my time, space, and capital.
Can you add me to the waitlist for an item that is sold out? Or can I preorder an item? You can be notified when I restock an item by going to that item's listing in my shop, and clicking on the "email when available" button. I do not take preorders for any items.
How do I join your Tea Towel of the Month Club?I ran my Tea Towel of the Month Club in 2017 and 2018, and have since discontinued it so I can focus on other projects.
How do I purchase fabric yardage from you? Or even just some of your fabric scraps?I have a commercial line with Moda Fabrics/Ruby Star Society, which is available in my shop now. Retailers can buy fabric directly from Moda.
Do you license your artwork?Yes, I do, and am always looking for new licensing opportunities. If you are a manufacturer, publisher, or other business that regularly licenses artwork, please contact me to discuss further.
Do you take custom orders? It depends. I do custom work for retail and corporate clients, as well as license my artwork. If this is something that your company is interested in, please contact me. I do not have the bandwidth to take on smaller projects for individuals.
I saw a product on your website/Instagram/Pinterest that you created, but don’t see it in your shop. Is it still available?Probably not! Most of my hand-printed work is limited-edition, which means that once something sells out, it’s gone. I don’t re-run limited editions.
Can I advertise on your blog, or submit a product for you to review? No, I do not accept advertisements or sponsored content. My site and blog are pretty much for promotion of my own work only.
